Core drilling machines for diamond drilling in concrete
At Sadu, you will find core drilling machines for professional diamond drilling, with hand-held and tripod-mounted versions for different drill diameters and applications.
The way you use the core drilling machine depends on the version and the drilling you want to perform.
Hand-held models offer more freedom of movement and are practical for smaller drillings and tasks where you need to position the machine easily.
For larger drill diameters and heavier core drillings, you use a machine that is suitable for mounting on a drill stand. A stand helps guide the drill machine stable and straight through the material.
Core Drilling in Concrete and Reinforced Concrete
A diamond core drilling machine is developed for tasks where a powerful and controlled drive is needed. The machine allows the diamond segments of the drill crown to grind through the material and is used, among other things, for drilling in concrete and reinforced concrete.
Think of drillings for:
water and drainage pipes
cable conduits
ventilation ducts
heating and cooling systems
other technical conduits in concrete structures
The maximum drill diameter and suitable materials are determined by the combination of core drilling machine and diamond drill crown. Therefore, always check the product specifications of both components.
Working by hand or with a drill stand
The way you use the core drilling machine depends on the version and the drilling you want to perform.
Hand-held models offer more freedom of movement and are practical for smaller drilling and tasks where you need to easily position the machine. Within the corresponding SADU range, models with pistol grip and D-handle are available.
For larger bore diameters and heavier core drilling, you use a machine that is suitable for mounting on a drill stand. A stand helps guide the drill machine stable and straight through the material. SADU also has separate rig-mounted core drilling motors for this.

Choose between 110V and 230V
The available voltage is an important part of the choice for a core drilling machine. Within the range, both 110V and 230V versions are available. There are also hand-held and stand-mounted models in different voltage variants.
Which version you need depends, among other things, on:
the power supply at the workplace
the regulations at the location
the desired bore diameter
the used diamond drill crown
hand-held or stand-mounted use
Always check before connecting whether the supply voltage matches the machine's specifications.
Adjust the RPM to match the drill bit diameter
For core drilling, a small diamond drill crown requires a different rotational speed than a large version. Therefore, professional core drilling machines are available with multiple mechanical gears.
The tripod-mounted SADU SDM-352 has three gears, for example, which allow the speed to be adjusted for different drill diameters. With this machine, the speed decreases as a larger drill crown is used.
Choose the gear that matches the diamond drill crown used before drilling. Always check:
the diameter of the drill crown
the allowed speed of the drill crown
the speed range of the machine
the material to be drilled
Do not switch between mechanical gears while the machine is running, unless the manufacturer explicitly allows this.
Protection During Heavy-Duty Core Drilling
When drilling in concrete, the load can suddenly increase, for example, when the diamond drill crown hits reinforcement or gets stuck in the material. Professional core drilling machines may therefore be equipped with various safety features.
The SADU SDM-352 includes a soft start, overload protection, and a mechanical slip clutch. The soft start allows the motor to gradually reach speed. The overload protection helps protect the motor when it is overloaded, while the mechanical clutch provides extra protection when the drill crown gets stuck.
Such features support a controlled working method, but do not replace correct machine selection and operation. Do not force the core drilling machine when progress suddenly decreases during drilling.
Pair the machine with the right diamond drill bit
The core drilling machine provides the drive, while the diamond drill crown determines what opening you can make and for which material the combination is suitable.
Therefore, align the following components with each other:
the connection of the machine and drill crown
the desired bore diameter
the drilling depth
the prescribed rotational speed
the material to be drilled
the allowed drilling method
the maximum capacity of the machine
For professional core drilling machines and wet drilling crowns, the connection 1 1/4" UNC is used, among others. SADU has diamond drilling crowns with this connection for wet drilling in, among other things, reinforced concrete.

Core Drilling with Water Cooling
When core drilling in concrete, water cooling is often used. Water helps to cool the diamond segments and removes fine drilling material from the cutting zone. For heavy concrete drilling, SADU indicates that water is needed during the use of the relevant core drilling machines.
Only use a machine and diamond drilling crown that are suitable for wet drilling. Also ensure a safe water supply and collection of the released drilling water.
More information about this drilling method can be found in our diamond drills for wet drilling.
How to Properly Combine a Core Drill and Drill Stand
If you want to use a core drilling motor on a tripod, check whether both parts are suitable for each other. Pay attention not only to the attachment but also to the maximum load and drill diameter.
The tripod-mounted SADU SDM-352, for example, has mounting holes with a distance of 79 x 41 mm. Always check the product specifications before combining a motor and tripod of different designs.
Ensure before drilling that:
the tripod is securely attached
the drill is firmly in the holder
the diamond drilling crown is mounted straight
all moving parts can move freely
the water supply is correctly connected when you drill wet
the drilling area is free of pipes and other obstacles
For the different versions, see our drills and tripods.
Order a core drill for professional drilling work
First, determine which diameters and materials you want to drill and whether you will work hand-held or with a drill stand. Then check the voltage, machine capacity, connection, and available speeds.
Within the range, you will find various core drilling machines for professional diamond drilling, including hand-held and stand-mounted models in 110V and 230V.
Compare the product specifications and choose the drill that fits your diamond core drill and tasks.
For the corresponding drills, see our diamond core bits.
